Man dies, mother hospitalized as fire guts house in Olongapo City
OLONGAPO CITY — A 40-year-old man died and his mother was hospitalized late Monday night after a fire engulfed their home in this city, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) confirmed Tuesday, April 22.
Fire Officer 2 Jayferson Liwag said the blaze broke out at 11:34 p.m. on Sunday in a 12-square-meter, two-story residence made of light materials in Barangay West Bajac-Bajac. The fire, which reportedly began on the second floor, was declared under control and extinguished by 11:50 p.m.
Liwag said the cause of death has not yet been determined, pending further investigation. The victim’s mother was taken to a hospital for possible smoke inhalation.
This incident follows another fire on Easter Sunday in a commercial building along Magsaysay Drive in Barangay East Tapinac. That blaze affected several well-known establishments, including the iconic Sam’s Pizza, Legacy Bar, and Twenty-Two Hundred (2200).
The BFP has yet to release further details regarding the cause of either fire or confirm if there were additional injuries or fatalities. INQ
