MANILA, Philippines—Students in the country’s top universities may expect a new lecturer on campus: the recently removed chief justice of the Supreme Court, Renato Corona, one of his lawyers said Saturday.
Lawyer Jose Roy III told reporters at The Medical City in Pasig that the former magistrate has “expressed some interest” to make the rounds of the lecture circuit to explain his side of the story to the public, this despite the fact that the impeachment trial is over.
“Obviously this is a matter of interest to law, community students and professionals,” Roy III said.
Asked which university Corona was planning to visit, Roy III did not give any specifics. “No, no, no, he did not say,” he said.
He added, however, that he was “sure” the top universities “will find it interesting” to see Corona give his lectures.
Aside from making the rounds of the lecture circuit, Roy said that Corona could also teach law, since this “would be very beneficial” to the lawyers in the local community.
He said that it was also possible Corona would return to private practice although “we did not discuss that this time.”
Roy said Corona was “in very good spirits.”
“The chief justice is comfortable with the knowledge that he has set the new standard for transparency and I think the Filipino nation sees that, so for the moment, that’s quite an accomplishment,” he said.
