MANILA, Philippines — Senate President Francis Escudero on Maundy Thursday warned the public against “prophets of darkness” who paint the country’s future as “black,” reminding them that the Holy Week should be a time for forgiveness, transformation, and unity.
In a statement for Holy Week, Escudero marked the period as an opportunity to reflect and assess oneself as “good Christians and responsible citizens.”
He expressed hope that Holy Week would become a time of change and unity for the public
“Huwag tayo magpadala sa mga propeta ng kadiliman na nagsasabing itim at hindi makulay at maliwanag ang bukas,” he said in a statement.
(Let us not be swayed by prophets of darkness who say that the future is black, grim, and dark.)
“Ang liwanag at pag-asa ang mensahe ng muling pagkabuhay at huwag nating payagan at hayaan ang sino man na nakawin at bawiin ito sa atin,” he added.
(The message of the Resurrection is light and hope, and we should not allow anyone to steal or take that away from us.)
Escudero also said that Lent is a time of forgiveness and reconciliation, not a time for quarreling and “advancing personal ambitions.”
