MANILA, Philippines — Over 1,700 traffic enforcers were deployed to monitor reckless behavior on major thoroughfares across the country this Holy Week, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said on Wednesday.
“All our enforcers are deployed to major thoroughfares to at least serve as a deterrent against reckless driving,” LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said.
“This is part of the instruction of our [Transportation] Secretary Vince Dizon since the presence alone of uniformed LTO personnel will compel errant drivers to behave,” he added.

Mendoza also said the LTO is in close coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other law enforcement agencies.
Since the beginning of Holy Week on Palm Sunday, the LTO has made two legal measures against the registered drivers and owners of two passenger buses, according to Mendoza.
This, he said, is due to new mechanisms formulated to “strengthen accountability of errant drivers.”
“For Secretary Dizon, slowness is not an option. That’s why we swiftly take action against these reckless drivers without compromising their right to due process,” Mendoza said in Filipino.
“We have not fallen short in constantly reminding everyone about road safety, and we’re now upgrading our action plan against abusive drivers by ensuring the certainty that they will be caught and held accountable,” he added.
He also urged the public to continue calling out errant motorists, even on social media, as the LTO has a special team monitoring the internet for reports of abusive or reckless motorists.
