Rains seen in parts of Mindanao, Luzon; hot and humid elsewhere—Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Parts of Northern Luzon and Mindanao are seeing overcast skies and rains while hot and humid weather are expected elsewhere on Monday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Rhea Torres, weather specialist of Pagasa, said the rains in northern Luzon are due to a frontal system, while easterlies cause the same in parts of Mindanao.

The frontal system refers to the boundary or zone where different air masses meet and interact, while easterlies are the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.

“Because of the frontal system, rains could be experienced in some parts of northern Luzon,” Torres said in a public weather forecast.

“Meanwhile, for the rest of the country, we see fair weather today except in the western section of the Mindanao area due to the effect of easterlies, which [cause] cloud clusters,” she added.

Particularly, Pagasa’s 4 a.m. bulletin said Batanes, Cagayan, and Apayao see cloudy skies with rains due to a frontal system, while Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi are set to have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.

On the other hand, the same bulletin said Metro Manila and the rest of the country expect fair weather with partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Torres said no low-pressure areas are seen forming or entering the Philippine area of responsibility.

Pagasa also said no gale warning is seen in any seaboards of the country.
