MANILA, Philippines — Over 155,000 travelers are expected to pass through the Ninoy Aquino International Airport daily during the Holy Week, the New Naia Infra Corp. (NNIC) said on Thursday.

According to NNIC general manager Lito Alvarez, the expected number is higher than the 145,000 recorded during the same period last year.

“Versus last year’s numbers, ineexpect namin na tataas ito (we expect this to increase to) … ngayon (now) 155,000 to 157,000 daily [during Holy Week],” said Alvarez in a press conference.

Despite the high number of travelers expected, Alvarez expressed confidence that both the Naia and the NNIC will be able to handle the surge.

“So pagtulungan natin ito, ‘yung support na ginagawa natin sa ating mga pamahalaan sa NNIC, MIAA (Manila International Airport Authority) at sa DOTr (Department of Transportation), napakalaking bagay noon – para mag-create ang government kung ano ang dapat gawin para walang ma-delay na biyahe,” he said.

(So let’s work together on this. The support we provide to our governments, NNIC, MIAA and DOTr, is a huge help to the government to do what needs to be done so that no trips are delayed.)

Meanwhile, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon called on the public to try scheduling their trips earlier to avoid the surge of travelers during Holy Week.
