UP Manila to offer imaging courses

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines (UP) Manila will be offering medical imaging certificate courses in a bid to provide upskilling for healthcare professionals.

UP-Manila announced this in a statement on Wednesday, after the university signed a memorandum of understanding with medical systems company Fujifilm Healthcare Asia Pacific last March 27.

“The University of the Philippines Manila will begin offering certificate courses on medical imaging to radiographers, medical officers, and information technology personnel,” it said.

“Faculty members from Thailand’s Mahidol University will lead the courses for the three levels of the Fujifilm Asia-Pacific Healthcare Learning Academy beginning in May 2025,” it added.

The three levels are the following in this order:

  1. Digital imaging and medical informatics
  2. Medical informatics intermediate picture archiving and communication systems
  3. Medical informatics advanced course

UP Manila Chancellor Michael Tee said the certificate courses were part of their response to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive for a radiation technology undergraduate program in the university and other state universities and colleges.

“This upskilling program will help ensure that our future faculty are kept abreast with cutting-edge technology,” Tee said in the statement.
