MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3) will continue its extended operations “indefinitely” due to the positive reception of the public.
MRT-3 said the last train trips during weekdays would remain extended by an hour, from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at North Avenue Station, and from 10:09 p.m. to 11:09 p.m. at Taft Avenue Station.
“The MRT-3 will maintain its extended weekday operations indefinitely—providing more comfort and giving back time to commuters and passengers,” the rail management’s Facebook post on Sunday night reads.
The MRT-3 also said such initiatives “are aimed at catering to the needs of more passengers, especially workers whose jobs are scheduled in the evening.”
The rail management noted that the additional hour yielded a total of 29,530 passengers from March 24 to March 28, and 31,474 passengers from March 31 to April 4.
To continuously meet the riding public’s demand, the MRT-3 said it would also continue to deploy an additional train to improve rush hour travel.
The extended train hours were first implemented on March 24 following the order of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
