NBI arrests 2 wanted for child abuse in Laguna

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday arrested two individuals accused of sexually assaulting three minors in Laguna.

According to the NBI, one of the individuals was arrested in San Pablo City, Laguna for sexually assaulting three minors—one of whom is his 4-year old daughter, the others his 19- and 14-year-old step-daughters.

The NBI said the man was arrested after a non-government organization reported the children’s situation to the agency on March 30.

“Two step-daughters were able to free themselves from their sexually-perverted step-father and sought the assistance from the NBI since their 4-year-old half-sister is still enduring repeated sexual and physical assault from the subject,” the NBI said in a statement.

The NBI said the step-daughters narrataed that the abuse began in 2023 when they were staying at the suspect’s house in San Pablo City while their mother was working as an overseas Filipino worker in Kuwait.

Both victims narrated how the suspect, who was supposed be their step-father, sexually abused them—including his own 4-year old biological daughter.

Meanwhile, both step-daughters also told the NBI that the suspect also used illegal drugs.

A rescue operation was then conducted on March 31, 2025, in San Pablo City, Laguna where the 4-year old child was rescued, while the suspect was arrested.

Cases for violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 8353 (Anti-Rape Law), RA No. 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act), and RA No. 9208 as amended by RA 10364 (Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012) were filed against the suspect before the inquest prosecutor of San Pablo City, Laguna.

Swedish man wanted for child rape arrested

Meanwhile, the NBI in a separate statement also reported the arrest of a Swedish individual wanted for child rape.

The NBI identified him as Heinz Henry Andreas Berglund, who was arrested in Angeles City, Pampanga on April 2.

The case stemmed from information received from the Swedish Police Authority through the Homeland Security Investigations, which showed that Berglund was the subject of an investigation for two counts of child rape and was aldo previously suspected of the rape of 10-year-old child in Sweden in 2021.

The suspect also had previous convictions for serious financial fraud in 2009 and 2003.

The NBI then found out that Berglund arrived in the Philippines on March 18, 2025.

It was on March 29, 2025, when Berglund was finally arrested at the Ambassador Suites in Angeles City.

The NBI said Berglund’s passport was also already revoked as he faces several cases under the Swedish Criminal Code in Sweden.
