PNP deploys over 1,400 vehicles for free rides amid transport strike

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed more than 1,400 vehicles nationwide for free rides to commuters affected by the transport strike staged by transport group Manibela.

In a statement on Monday, PNP said it dispatched 1,469 vehicles to aid commuters as early as 10 a.m.

On its official Facebook page, Manibela showed the situation of commuters at Metro Manila jeep and bus stops.

Based on the post, many commuters were stranded due to the strike, which began on March 21.

Manibela is protesting the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board’s alleged falsification of the data on the Public Transport Modernization Program.

To ensure the safety of these commuters, the PNP also deployed 48,555 personnel to terminals and transportation hubs across the country.

In Metro Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office dispatched 8,152 personnel to major thoroughfares, transport terminals, commercial zones, and other areas of convergence.
