MANILA, Philippines — The transport situation in Metro Manila remains normal despite the ongoing transport strike, the Land Transport Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said on Monday.
“In general, the situation is normal,” said LTFRB spokesperson Atty. Ariel Inton in an interview, as he noted that most jeepneys chose to ply their usual routes.
The transport strike mounted by Manibela, which began on March 21 (Friday), and will last until March 26 (Wednesday), was over the alleged falsification of the LTFRB’s data on the Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP).

Inton said the local government units deployed their vehicles to provide free rides to stranded commuters under their respective “Libreng Sakay” programs.
He said there is no data on the number of affected passengers yet.
What is certain, however, is that the participants in the transport strike are those who did not comply with the consolidation, Inton added.
Inton said a total of 86.23 percent or 165,334 out of 191,730 public utility vehicles (PUVs) complied with the consolidation program under the PTMP before the November 2024 deadline.
This meant that 26,396 were noncompliant.
PUVs consist of bus, jeepneys, UV Express and minibuses.
