Three-stage 100k run of CUC starts June 30

The Cebu Ultra runners Club (CUC) will stage its first three-leg 100-kilometer ultramarathon this June 30 in Cebu’s southwestern towns.

CUC said it is the first group in the country to  come up with the idea of staging a three-part ultramarathon series for hardcore runners.

During yesterday’s launching at the White Gold House Restaurant, CUC president Tony Galon said the group wants to cater to the demands of the fast-growing ultra marathon community in Cebu. The launching was also attended by noted CUC members Haidee Acuña, Joel Garganera and race director Joel Juarez.

CUC is also the group behind the first all-women ultramarathon held this year.

“We are making this a three-leg series because we want to showcase what the countryside of Cebu looks like. With this, we can promote [other] towns and not just the city,” said Acuña.

The 100-kilometer race will start at the Yapha Beach Resort in Pinamungajan town. The route passes through Toledo City, Naga City, San Fernando, Carcar, Barili, Aloguinsan and vice versa.

The race will kick off at 6 p.m. and will have a  generous 20-hour cut-off time.

Finishers will receive a specially designed medal. Each leg will have its designed medal. If a participant completes the three legs, he can assemble the three medals together.

Organizers want to limit the participants to 100. As of this writing, they already have 50 confirmed runners, some coming from Cebu and some from Manila. One participant is from Thailand.

Registration fee is pegged at P1,500 inclusive of a race bib, hydration and food at the finish line. The race briefing will be held two days before the run while a free medical check up will also be given to the runners before the race.
