Anakpawis Representative Rafael Mariano on Thursday said the sacking of Chief Justice Renato Corona should now lead to the trial and conviction of his benefactor, former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Mariano challenged President Benigno Aquino III to also muster all the powers of his office to bring Arroyo, now a Pampanga representative, to jail and make her pay for her sins to the people during her presidency.
Arroyo, who is battling a rare neck ailment, is under hospital arrest in connection with electoral sabotage.
He said that Anakpawis signed the impeachment complaint against Corona because it believed that the then Chief Justice was a major stumbling block to the prosecution and conviction of Arroyo.
“The public has yet to see sincere efforts from Aquino toward Arroyo’s punishment and resolution of lingering people’s issues, including poverty, unemployment, landlessness, low wages, social injustice, among others,” Mariano said.
Mariano said Arroyo had amassed ill-gotten wealth, committed plunder and other heinous crimes and human rights violations against the people. Cynthia D. Balana
