The month of June was declared as National No-Smoking Month in the country through Presidential Proclamation No. 183, which was signed in 1993. In 2009, the Clean Air Act, which prohibits smoking in public places, was passed. The provision shall be implemented by local government units. Last year, the Metro Manila Development Authority started to enforce a smoking ban on certain public places in the Metro. Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
