Metro Manila traffic eases up

MANILA, Philippines— Heavy traffic congestion in some streets in Metro Manila cleared up Thursday night, except in the southern part of the region, the Metro Manila Development Authority said.

The sudden afternoon downpour caused heavy flooding in some streets in the National Capital Region, snarling traffic that began around 2 p.m.

As of 9:11 p.m., the MMDA said that traffic between Market Market in Taguig and Bagong Ilog in Pasig was light.

But in the South Luzon Expressway area, it was the opposite. The agency said traffic between Alabang and Bicutan was heavy.

The flooded areas on EDSA also caused traffic gridlock from Ayala Avenue to Main Avenue in Cubao, Quezon City as of 8:30 p.m.

Traffic was also light between Katipunan and C5 Road and between The Fort in Taguig and Ayala Avenue in Makati.

Moderate traffic were reported on the following areas:

  • Taft Avenue
  • Pasay Road
  • Trinoma
  • Nepa Q Mart
  • Muñoz  Market
  • Balintawak (southbound)
  • North Avenue
  • New York Street, Cubao
  • Aurora Boulevard
  • Santolan in Cubao
  • Guadalupe, Makati
  • Shaw Boulevard
