MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday said it will conduct a special raffle for the petition filed by former President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Bato Dela Rosa which seeks to prohibit the government from cooperating with the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The SC made the announcement shortly after the petition was filed at around 4:27 p.m. of the same day.

“Given the significance of this case and upon the Chief Justice’s instructions, a special raffle has been conducted pursuant to Rule 7, Section 7 of the Internal Rules of the Supreme Court,” SC spokesperson Atty. Camille Ting said in a statement.

All cases filed with the SC are typically assigned to a certain division by raffle, but a special raffle system is utilized for matters of high significance to allow the Court to prioritize cases based on its urgency.

The petition in question sought a temporary restraining order to prevent respondents from facilitating, assisting, or cooperating with the ICC in any investigation related to the Philippine government’s anti-drug campaign.

The petition was filed the same day the former president was arrested upon his arrival in Manila on Tuesday morning.

As of posting time, Duterte is under police custody at Villamor Air Base.
