Sudden downpour snarls Metro Manila traffic

MANILA, Philippines–Motorists heading northbound are advised to take an alternate route as traffic comes to a standstill due to a flooded area along EDSA, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said early Thursday evening.

“Motorists heading northbound are advised to take C-5 instead of EDSA,” MMDA said in an advisory, noting that the famous highway is still affected by a gutter-level flood on P. Tuazon.

As of 6 p.m., Bravo 12 Metrobase officer said traffic between EDSA-Timog and Santolan was moderate to heavy, as well as from FB Harrison to Taft.

He also said the same traffic movement was being experienced along Magallanes, all the way to P.Tuazon.

“It is moving, but it is slow,” he said.

Floods were also reported on the EDSA Shrine near the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration office on Ortigas Avenue, Mandaluyong City.

Traffic also crawled on Aurora Boulevard Tunnel (southbound) due to floods.

Earlier, around 4:30 p.m., the agency said traffic was heavy on the following areas due to floods:

• Between Sucat and Bicutan on the South Luzon Expressway;

• Between Greenmeadows and Eastwood in Libis, Quezon City;

• Between Aurora Boulevard and Miriam College;

• Between Harrison and Taft Avenue;

• Between Tramo and Malibay;

• Between Magallanes and P.Tuazon; and

• Between Monte de Piedad and Nepa Q Mart
