LEADERS of business groups in Cebu said that the business climate in the country would benefit from the impeachment trial and the conviction of Chief Justice Renato Corona.
This will help make us more attractive to investors, said Gordon Alan Joseph, Cebu Business Club president in a statement.
“This is good for business. Unlike other countries, corruption is a major issue for potential foreign investors. This will help establish the renewed identity of the Philippines in the world. We are open for business!” said Joseph.
Newly inducted president of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry Prudencio Gesta agreed.
Gesta said that the outcome of the impeachment trial would surely improve the credibility in the government’s campaign against corruption.
“This will encourage an inflow of investment. We hope that this is not a dead end and that officials in government will continue their fight against corruption,” said Gesta.
Eric Ng Mendoza, Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, said that Chief Justice Corona was given a fair trial and after the verdict, a historic first for the country, he hoped that the government could move forward to address other issues.
Mendoza said that the government took a clear stand on corruption in the Corona case and showed what erring officials can expect to happen./Reporter Aileen Garcia-Yap
