Telco, Red Cross gear up for rainy season

SMART Communications Inc. and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) joined forces once again for disaster preparedness and response.

Smart donated tents to the PRC chapters in the Visayas for deployment in the region’s disaster-prone areas.

The tents were turned over to PRC officials and volunteers in Cebu, Iloilo, Guimaras, Bacolod and Dumaguete for evacuation, emergency or rescue centers in cases of natural calamities and other disasters.

These will also be used by PRC volunteers in setting up first aid stations in special events.

“Over the years, we have been supportive of the programs and activities of the PRC and Smart will continue to provide assistance,” Smart Public Affairs head Ramon Isberto said.

Recently, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced the rainy season may start soon and that they are already in the lookout for cyclones that may enter the country.
