Police ready for opening of classes

POLICE officials said security preparations are in place for the opening of classes on June 4 in Metro Cebu.

At least 1,000 policemen will be deployed near  public and private schools in Cebu City,   said Supt. Arnel Banzon, deputy chief of the Cebu City Police Office.

Law enforcers have been deployed   since the second week of May,  said Senior Supt. Rolando Ualat in yesterday’s Talakayan Sa Isyung Pulis (TSIP) at the  Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7).

At least two policemen will be fielded for every campus.

Tarpaulin banners announcing police telephone hotlines were put up near campuses along with police assistance centers where students can seek help in case of any trouble.

Policemen will also be deployed in pier areas and terminals to secure out-of-town students who will be arrving in Cebu.

In Mandaue City, 46 public assistance centers were put up in various schools, said Supt. James Goforth.

Gofort also said dialogues have been held with fraternity leaders to avoid fraternity-related conflicts  during the opening of classes./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
