TRADER  KILLED

A 62-YEAR-OLD money lender was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in Consolacion town, northern Cebu.

Marianito Lagahit was shot several times in the body and was declared dead at Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City.

Police said Lagahit was shot while he was walking along a road at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday in barangay Poblacion Oriental.

JAPANESE FOUND DEAD

A 67-YEAR-OLD Japanese national was found dead yesterday in his condominium unit in barangay Cabangcalan, Mandaue City.

The body of Fujita Mitsuo from Hyogo, Japan, was already in a  state of decomposition.

Police said the Japanese had been staying at Garnet Place since 2009.

There were no external injuries that would suggest  foul play in his death, said police.

Building personnel checked on Mitsuo after a  foul odor was noticed coming from his room.

The Japanese did not respond despite repeated knocks on the door.

Marivic Pielago, secretary of the building, called the police.

Policemen had to detach  some jalousie blades of the window to enter.

They found Mitsuo  slumped on the floor inside the bathroom./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA

TANOD STABBED

A BARANGAY tanod was stabbed in the chest  after he reprimanded a group of men playing  cards in  barangay Tubod, Barili town, Cebu.

Julius Onabia, 36, survived the attack.

Police said Onabia was walking along a road when he saw a group of men playing “tong-its” on  Tuesday afternoon.

Onabia tried to stop the illegal card game but one of the players, Joseph Luyao, 39, confronted him and stabbed him, said police.

Although wounded, Onabia was  able to grab the knife from Luyao. Other tanods arrived and helped arrest Luyao, who was  drunk.

MOTORIST NABBED

A 21-YEAR-OLD motorcycle rider was arrested at police checkpoint in Mandaue City after he was caught  using  someone else’s driver’s license.

Richard Rubin, a resident of barangay Jugan, Consolacion town, presented a driver’s license owned by one Benn Gerald Sungahid.

Police said Rubin will be charged for driving without a license and for disobedience and resistance to a person in authority after the driver allegedly tried to evade the checkpoint in barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.

Police said Rubin was driving a black Mio motorcycle when he was flagged down by police conducting a checkpoint on H. Abellana Street on Tuesday afternoon.

Rubin tried to maneuver a U-turn but PO3 Vengie Abato and PO1 Ardian Balanay blocked him.

Police later discovered that Rubin had a driver’s license owned by another person.

Rubin later admitted that his driver’s license was confiscated last Feb. 27 by a Land Transportation Office agent for a traffic violation.
