SC to hold special session on Corona verdict
MANILA, Philippines—The Supreme Court will have a special session on Wednesday to discuss among others the impact of the verdict rendered by the Senate Impeachment Court that removed Chief Justice Renato Corona from office.
Court officials who refused to be identified because they were not authorized to do so said it was acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio who called the special session. The high court is on a month-long break and is supposed to resume sessions in June.
Part of the high court’s discussion in the special session set Wednesday afternoon is the Senate Impeachment Court’s notice of judgment which it received Wednesday morning. Jessie Tabondong of the Office of the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms delivered the copy to the high court.
Also set to be discussed in the special en banc session is next month’s 111th anniversary of the Supreme Court (June 11) and whether or not to allow Corona a month-long leave to clear his desk and turn over documents.
