Quiapo Muslim community turns over P10M worth of fake goods to officials

MANILA Philippinnes — The Muslim community in Quiapo has turned over P10 million worth of fake CDs and DVDs to Manila after a raid by officials of the Optical Media Board and Intellectual Property Office in the area Friday.

Pile of fake DVDs estimated at P10 million was turned over Friday, July 1, 2011, by Muslim Quiapo Traders to Manila officials, Optical Media Board (OMB) and Intellectual Property Office (IPO) in clearing operations conducted on the same day. DANICA HERMOGENES/INQUIRER.net

Normina Pangandaman, vice president of Muslim Quiapo Traders who has been selling the fake fake goods since she was 15 years old, said that at least 20,000 pieces of fake CDs and DVDs were turned over by their group to show support for the government’s anti-piracy campaign.

“It’s hard for the Muslim vendors but we will just try to sell our native products from Mindanao instead,”Pangandaman said.
