CIDG nabs woman for alleged estafa in Pasig City

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested a woman for estafa in Pasig City, the police unit announced on Wednesday.

MANILA, Philippines — The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested a woman for estafa in Pasig City, the police unit announced on Wednesday.

According to the CIDG report, the suspect convinced the victim to buy a condominium unit and scheduled a viewing of the property before signing the agreement.

During the viewing, the victim discovered the suspect was using a falsified condominium certificate of title and alerted the authorities, leading to the arrest of the latter in an entrapment operation on Jan. 30, the CIDG said.

The CIDG identified the victim as “Lee Ann” and the suspect as “Josan,” a Cainta, Rizal province resident.

The suspect is under the custody of the CIDG National Capital Region Field Unit office in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

She faces complaints before the Pasig City Office of the City Prosecutor for estafa and falsification by individuals and use of falsified documents under Articles 315 and 172, respectively, of the Revised Penal Code.

“We commend the courage of the complainant in reporting the fraudulent activity of the suspect,” CIDG Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said in a statement.

“We also urge the public to be vigilant in all of their dealings and transactions, especially those [that] involve money and properties,” Torre added.
