MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. on Friday described the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, which showed that more than half of Filipinos are satisfied with his administration’s performance, as “very encouraging.”

In an ambush interview in Pasay City, Marcos said it is uplifting to see that their efforts are reaching many people.

“So, of course, it’s very encouraging. Siyempre lalakas ang loob namin para patibayin pa, pagandahin pa namin ang trabaho namin,” he said.

(So, of course, it’s very encouraging. Of course, it will boost our spirits to strengthen and improve our work even more.)

In a statement on Thursday, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin also said the Marcos administration is grateful for the survey results, showing that 59 percent of Filipinos are pleased with the government’s performance.

“As always, we are grateful for the people’s support, as reflected in surveys that have consistently placed us in overwhelmingly positive territory,” Bersamin’s statement read.

However, he also noted that survey results are “mostly a weathervane for public opinion”—reflecting how much people support government policies but not necessarily how effective those policies are.

“In that sense, the truest measure of public service is whether we improve our people’s lives. This remains the primary standard by which we measure our work,” Bersamin said.
