Sea travel resumes in Sorsogon due to improved weather

SANTA MAGDALENA, Sorsogon – Sea travel in the eastern coast of this province is once again permitted as the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) lifted the suspension on Friday due to improved weather conditions.

In an advisory posted on Facebook around 2 p.m., the Coast Guard Sorsogon cited the absence of gale-force winds along the province’s coast, in accordance with the state weather bureau’s 24-hour weather forecast.

Small vessels including motorized fishing boats that may operate on Friday were still advised to “take precautionary measures while venturing out in the sea.”

On Jan. 29, vessels with 250 gross tonnages and below were prohibited to sail in the towns of Prieto Diaz, Barcelona, Gubat, Bulusan and Prieto Diaz due to the gale-force winds caused by the northeast monsoon.

The province experienced heavy rains due to the shear line since Jan. 29, prompting local government units to suspend in-person classes in some towns.
