MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.1 earthquake hit off the shores of Ilocos Norte on Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Phivolcs’ earthquake bulletin said that the tectonic quake jolted west of Bangui, Ilocos Norte, at 9:20 a.m. and had a depth of 14 kilometers.

Further, the agency noted that its scales detected the earthquake in the following areas:

Instrumental Intensity III: Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte

Instrumental Intensity II: Laoag City, Ilocos Norte

Phivolcs Science Research Analyst Lara Guianan previously told INQUIRER.net that intensity is the power of an earthquake as felt and reported by the affected population. In contrast, the instrumental intensity is the strength measured by an intensity meter or scale.

However, the Phivolcs added that no damage to properties and aftershocks are expected from the earthquake.
