Manila Water consistently passes DENR, LLDA General Effluent Standards

To ensure consistent compliance with pollution control standards, Manila Water continues to encourage its customers to avail of the Company’s desludging services, which guarantee the proper treatment of sludge collected prior to its release to water bodies.

To ensure consistent compliance with pollution control standards, Manila Water continues to encourage its customers to avail of the Company’s desludging services, which guarantee the proper treatment of sludge collected prior to its release to water bodies.

MANILA, Philippines – Manila Water has consistently passed the effluent compliance scorecard developed by the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) in relation to the General Effluent Standards set by government agencies.

In November 2024, all of Manila Water’s twenty-six (26) wastewater treatment facilities were 100% compliant with MWSS-RO’s Scorecard relative to the applicable General Effluent Standards set in the issued Wastewater Discharge Permits to the treatment facilities by either Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (EMB-DENR) or the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) for BOD, Oil and Grease, TSS, Surfactants and Fecal Coliform, or exceeded the 95% target set for this indicator.

These facilities include the two (2) septage treatment plants operated by Manila Water that receive and treat the hauled septage of its desludging trucks before disposing the treated byproducts through environmentally safe means.

In February, Manila Water’s desludging caravan will provide septic tank siphoning services at no additional cost in the following barangays in Metro Manila: Daang Bakal, Highway Hills, New Zaniga, Old Zaniga and Poblacion in Mandaluyong City; Alicia and Pasong Tamo in Quezon City; Caniogan in Pasig City, and Central Bicutan, Taguig City.

The desludging caravan will also be various barangays in Rizal Province: Barangay Balite (Pob.), San Rafael, San Isidro, and San Jose in Montalban; and Mayamot in Antipolo City.

Customers can call the Manila Water Customer Service Hotline 1627 or coordinate with their respective barangay council for the exact schedule of the desludging caravan’s visit in their area.
