Bicol provinces suspend classes due to heavy rains

LEGAZPI CITY — Local chief executives from various towns and cities in four provinces of the Bicol Region suspended classes on Thursday due to heavy rains caused by the shear line.

In Albay, classes at all levels were suspended in Manito, Tabaco City, Libon, Malilipot, Sto. Domingo, Tiwi, Malinao, Bacacay, Guinobatan, Daraga, Jovellar, Ligao City, Polangui, Camalig, Pio Duran, Legazpi City and Rapu-Rapu (from elementary to senior high school). In Oas, the suspension was at the discretion of school heads.

In Sorsogon, classes were suspended in the towns of Castilla, Donsol, Matnog, Pilar, Casiguran, Magallanes and in Sorsogon City.

In Camarines Norte, the towns affected include Sta. Elena, Basud, Mercedes, Daet, Vinzons, Talisay and Capalonga.

For Catanduanes province, local government units in Virac, Pandan, Caramoran, Bato, Viga, Gigmoto, Bagamanoc, Panganiban, and San Miguel also suspended classes.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued a heavy rainfall red warning to the four provinces, which may lead to severe flooding and a high risk of landslides.

The weather bureau has advised the public and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices to monitor weather conditions closely.
