6 hurt due to chemical explosion in Makati City

MANILA, Philippines — Six senior high school students were injured following a suspected ethanol chemical leak that led to an explosion in Brgy. San Antonio, Makati City, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported Wednesday.
According to the BFP, the incident occurred at around 5:20 p.m. inside the laboratory room of Globetek Science Foundation Inc. school located at St. Paul Road near Mayapis Street.
Authorities declared the area and their operation “safe and mission accomplished” by 6:46 p.m.

The BFP identified the six injured students as Janel Bundalian, Caile Bernardino, Aleysha Loraine Salonga, Blaze Isabel Cereno, Lea Angela Moreno and Lorenz Jarabejo.
Article continues after this advertisementThree of them were turned over to their families, while the other three were taken to a hospital by Makati Rescue for medical treatment, the BFP said.

Authorities have yet to determine the total cost of damage.
