PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — Pagadian City’s first councilor Sam Tyra Co, daughter of incumbent city mayor Samuel Co, made it to the top three in the Architecture Board Exams held early this January..
Co, who graduated cum laude in 2018 from BS Architecture at De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde, Inc. earned a rating of 82.3, less than a point from the first placer’s 82.8 Ckristel Janssen Daguio from the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
She placed third among the 1,052 passers. A total of 1,792 examinees took the Board this year.
Her father, who will be running for his third term this year, said his daughter begged off running for reelection to concentrate on her review for the architecture board.
“There was a pressure on her having graduated cum laude in 2018,” her father told the Inquirer.

“But my daughter pleaded not to run (for the 2025 elections) anymore as she wanted to focus on her review for the architecture board exams,” Mayor Co said. “She felt the pressure since she’d been away for six years with no reviews.”
Sam Tyra’s family was elated with the results of the Architecture Board Exams.
“We jumped for joy after learning that she did not only pass, she also placed in the top 3,” brother Lance Samuel said.
“My heart is so full of joy, I cannot thank God enough for the blessing. I have no doubt about her passing, but I was surprised by her topping the board exam. With all her perseverance and hard work, she even missed our family vacation last December as she wanted to focus on her review,” her mother Priscilla Ann said.
In her post on social media Wednesday morning, Sam Tyra expressed her thanks to God and to everyone who supported her.
