LUCENA CITY – A 20-year-old man drowned while swimming in Taal Lake on Sunday, January 26, in Tanauan City, Batangas.

The Batangas police identified the victim as John Mark Espena, a resident of Parañaque City. Espena was having a picnic with his relatives at the lakeside in Barangay Wawa when the incident occurred.

At 4:15 p.m., Espena accidentally ventured into the deeper part of the lake and began to struggle in the water, police said.

His companions managed to retrieve him from the lake and rushed him to the nearest hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
