Tondo fire destroys 30 houses, leaves 300 people homeless – BFP

MANILA, Philippines — Fire destroyed 30 houses in Isla Puting Bato, Tondo, early Thursday morning and left around 300 people homeless in Manila, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported.
Based on the initial report of the BFP, the blaze at Barangay 20 started on the second floor of a two-story house owned by Andy Orio.
Authorities said the fire quickly intensified, reaching the first alarm at 2:15 a.m. and the fifth alarm in just six minutes.
The fire was declared under control at 3:42 a.m. and extinguished at 4:14 a.m.

Around 58 fire trucks responded to the incident, including 18 units from the BFP and more or less 40 from volunteer groups.
Two BFP fireboats and three ambulances were also deployed to the scene.
Firefighters battled the blaze for at least two hours.
According to the BFP, the fire destroyed P150,000 worth of properties, but neither fatalities nor injuries were reported.
Fire investigators were still determining the cause of the fire as of this writing.
