Senate resumes session for Corona verdict

MANILA, Philippines – Day 44 of the impeachment trial began on Tuesday with the Senate, acting as an impeachment court, expected to give its verdict on Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile, who presides over the trial, banged the gavel at around 2 p.m. to signal the start of the proceedings.

All 23 senators, who sit as judges in the impeachment trial, were present.

Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III immediately moved for the voting of the case against Corona when the trial resumed a little past 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
