NPA rebel killed in Masbate

NAGA CITY, Philippines—Government troopers killed a suspected New People’s Army rebel in an encounter Monday afternoon in the municipality of San Jacinto on Ticao Island in the province of Masbate, an Army official said Tuesday morning.

Maj.  Angelo Guzman, spokesperson of the 9th Infantry Division, said soldiers clashed with around 30 communist rebels for about 10 minutes starting at 2:05 p.m. in the village of Bagacay.

He said the unidentified rebel’s body remained unclaimed at the Municipal Police Office as of Tuesday.

Another NPA rebel was killed and an M16 rifle and laptop recovered during a combat operation of the 9th Scout Rangers Company Monday morning in Capalonga, Camarines Norte, the military said.
