2 drown in Rizal waterfall

LUCENA CITY — A picnic of friends turned tragic after two of them drowned in a waterfall in Baras town in Rizal province on Monday, Jan 20, the police said.

Investigators said “John Mike,”18, “James Andrei,” 17, and “King Paulo,”19, arrived at Ungga Falls in the village of San Salvador around 1 p.m. for a swim, the Region 4A police said in a report on Tuesday.

Moments later, citing information from King Paulo, police said James Andrei spotted John Mike struggling to stay afloat in the water and came to his rescue.

Unfortunately, both of them were drowned.

After four hours, rescuers found the bodies of the victims floating in the river and rushed them to the hospital but they were declared dead on arrival.

The families of the victims believed that their loved ones died from drowning and there was no need to subject their bodies to an autopsy.
