1 killed, two hurt in Cebu shootings

A man was killed while two others were injured in separate shooting incidents in Cebu province over the weekend.

A 49-tear-old teacher was mauled to death by his friend after a drinking spree in barangay Perrelos, Carcar town, south Cebu, yesterday dawn.

Danilo Enad of San Fernando town, south Cebu, was found dead on a bamboo bench in a roadside shanty at 3 a.m.

The 22-year-old suspect, Jade Casas, an Internet cafe attendant owned up to the crime and surrendered to police.

Police said both men, who were joined by two women earlier in their drinking session, argued.

The flareup ended up with the Internet cafe worker beating up his drinking buddy until he died.

Casas, ho was picked up by police at the house of his sister Mercy in Camella Homes, barangay Lawaan, Talisay City, yesterday is tained in the Carcar police station waiting for charges to be filed against him.

In barangay Mambaling, Cebu City, Leo Delatoria, 32, was brought to a Cebu City hospital for a gunshot wound in the stomach.

Police said Delatoria and a cousin were on board a motorcycle when they saw Roy Labiaga brandishing his firearm along sitio Ibabao around 7 p.m.

Police said Labiaga shot Delatoria for no apparent reason and then fled.

Police are looking into a personal grudge as the possible motive of the killing.

In barangay Pahina San Nicolas, a 35-year-old vulcanizing shop worker was shot by his uncle after they had a fistfight.

Webster Villegas was shot in his upper right thigh.

The suspect, Bernabe Crystal, 46, a member of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) of the Cebu City Police Office, surrendered to police after the incident.

Police said the men had a fistfight after Villegas tried to pacify his uncle when he ran amok outside his house past 11 p.m.

Crystal went inside his house when neighbors intervened but Villegas threw stones at Crystal as he left.

This prompted Crystal to shoot Villegas from the window of his house.

“Crystal said that he and Villegas argued,” said SPO1 Ruth Violango of the Cebu City Police Office.

“Villegas said he was angry with Crystal because he often runs amok every time he gets drunk,” Violango added.
