Magnitude 4.0 earthquake hits off Surigao del Norte coast
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck off the coast of Surigao del Norte on Thursday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its latest bulletin, Phivolcs reported that the quake occurred at 2:14 p.m. and was located some 21 kilometers (km) east of Burgos in Surigao del Norte.
The tremor, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 13 km.

The initial report classified the earthquake as magnitude 4.2 with a depth of 10 km.
However, Phivolcs told INQUIRER.net in a phone call that the initial report was based on an automatic solution or preliminary data generated by its monitoring system.
