SANTA MAGDALENA, SORSOGON — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) lifted the sea travel suspension in this province on Wednesday, Jan. 15, allowing vessels to resume to their normal operations.
Lieutenant Ronnie Esparagoza, station commander of Coast Guard Sorsogon, issued the advisory on Wednesday morning, citing the absence of shear line and gale-force wind warning along the province’s coast.
Since Jan. 9, small vessels with 15 gross tonnages and below were already prohibited from sailing on the eastern coast of the province due to the heavy rains brought by the shear line.
On Jan. 11, the PCG Sorsogon issued a new suspension order due to the prevailing effects of gale warning, covering all kind of watercraft carrying 250 tonnages and below.
The entire province experienced incessant rains due to the shear line and the gale warning for several days, causing flooding and landslides in several towns.
In its 11 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Southern Luzon said Sorsogon is still experiencing light to moderate rains, alongside Albay, and parts of Catanduanes and Camarines Sur.
