Police nab alleged gun ban violator in Lucena City

LUCENA CITY — Police arrested a drunk man on Tuesday night for alleged violation of the election gun ban after residents complained of indiscriminate firing in Lucena City, Quezon.

The Region 4A police reported on Wednesday that policemen nabbed “Felicisimo” in Barangay Ibabang Dupay around 6:30 p.m. when he indiscriminately fired his gun and caused commotion among villagers.

A villager reported the incident to the barangay tanod (village watchmen) who sought assistance from the local police station, which dispatched cops to the area.

The suspect was arrested while still holding his caliber .22 revolver and roaming the streets in the village.

Police said the suspect was under the influence of alcohol when arrested.

The report did not specify if the confiscated handgun had government permits and licenses in the name of the suspect.

The suspect was brought to the police station and will face criminal charges for alarm and scandal, violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition and election gun ban.

The nationwide gun ban started on January 12, as the election period began for the May 2025 political exercise.
