Restorative justice advocate Sister Zenaida Cruz Cabrera, 74
MANILA, Philippines — Sr. Zenaida Cruz Cabrera of the Sisters of Holy Eucharist, known for pushing for restorative justice for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), died on Tuesday at the age of 74, the Radio Veritas announced.
According to Radio Veritas, the congregation said that the nun died at 5:10 a.m. at Commonwealth Hospital days after being confined in the hospital. She was brought to the hospital on Saturday after suffering from a heart attack and went comatose for days.
Cabrera was the coordinator of Caritas Manila Restorative Justice Ministry prior to her death, Radio Veritas noted.
“Layunin ng kanyang misyon ang mabigyang pagkakataon sa mga bilanggo na magbago, muling tanggapin sila sa kanilang pamilya at komunidad, at maging produktibong miyembro ng lipunan,” Radio Veritas said in statement.
(Her mission is dedicated to give PDLs a chance to be accepted again by their families and communities and become productive members of the society.)
Article continues after this advertisementIn a separate Facebook post, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Novalices said that Cabrera “dedicated over 20 years of her life to the compassionate Restorative Justice Ministry for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in the Diocese of Novaliches.”

The diocese mentioned that her funeral details will be announced shortly.
