Idolz, Paneros dispute IBP crown
THE Super Idolz crushed defending champion Los Demonyous, 72-62, last Saturday to advance to the finals of the 8th Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)-2012 basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish gym.
The Super Idolz will face Pañeros in next Saturday’s finals after the latter nipped league-leader Pecandela Law Firm, 51-49.
Idolz opened with a blistering 22-9 rally but Los Demonyous responded with a, 20-12 run in the second quarter to close in at, 29-34 at the half.
Ahead by just three at the end of the third quarter, 47-44, the Idolz outscored Los Demonyous in the fourth, 25-18 for the 10-point victory.
Fermin Pepito and Benjo Macion combined for 35 points for the Idolz while Lito Ortiz paced Demonyous with 17 markers.
Earlier, the Pañeros stopped the five-game streak of Pecandela Law Firm to claim the last finals slot.
After Dennis Alino tied the score at 49-all with only 23 seconds remaining, Pecandela committed a costly turnover allowing Alino to score on a lay-up that pegged the final count.
Barry Busi and Dennis Aliño led Pañeros with 12 and 11 points, respectively while Mark Russ Gamallo paced Pecandela with 15.
