Nazareno 2025: Traslación – a devotion passed by father to his son
MANILA, Philippines — Jason Angcajas was only 12 years old when his father brought him to a Traslación or the procession of the image of Jesus Nazareno.
Angcajas remembers that his father used to carry him on the shoulders to witness the event.
Now aged 26, he is now continuing the devotion that was once started by his parent.

“Dati, si Papa, matagal na ring deboto. Nung nakita nya na may sakit ako, parang hinikayat nya na sumama ako,” Angcaas told INQUIRER.net.

(He would leave me in a place and he would wipe his handkerchief [on the image of Jesus Nazareno]. He would give it back to me. He would wipe it on me.)
Angcajas recalled that he used to have an asthma but he eventually got better when he became a devotee of the Nazarene.
His testament is among the stories commonly shared by fellow devotees wherein their health improved when they joined the Traslación.
Nowadays, his father is no longer capable of attending the procession because the old man now has health complications.

“Yung pinupunas sa akin ni Papa, ngayon ay pinupunas ko po sa kanya para mawala rin yung nararamdaman niyang sakit,” the 26-year-old devotee said.
(What my father used to wipe on me, I am doing that to him now so he can recover from his illness.)
The young Angcajas also shared that being a Nazarene faithful has saved his life.
He recalled the time when he got involved in a motorcycle accident in 2021.
“Pasasalamat ko po kay Amang kasi galos lang po ako pero yung motor ko sobra po, yuping-yupi talaga. Simula po nun, sabi ko talaga, di ako pinapabayaan ni Poong Nazareno,” he said.
(I thank the Jesus Nazareno because I only sustained bruises while my motorcycle was in total wreck. Ever since then, I told myself that the Nazareno never left my side.)
On Thursday this year, the Traslación began at 4:41 a.m.
The procession is expected to be participated by millions of Filipinos.
It is a retracing the route of the Nazarene image from Bagumbayan (Luneta) to Intramuros, and then to Quiapo.
