Teachers assigned in Makati City have been undergoing professional training to enable them to implement the new curriculum of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) K-12 program.
In a statement, DepEd-Makati officer in charge Priscila de Sagun said the teachers in charge of Grades 1 to 7 had received training on the K-12 curriculum time for the opening of classes next week.
“The K-12 program hopes to decongest the curriculum by spreading lessons over 12 years instead of cramming them into 10. It is expected to fill in the deficiencies and strengthen the students’ competencies in core subjects such as English, Math and
Science,” she said.
The program adds two more years to the current 10-year basic education system with secondary education divided into junior high which consists of four years, and senior high which will last for two years. Miko Morelos
