The Junior Chamber Inc. – Cebu Mactan Channeltoured the 58 children of Albert Schweitzer Famiienwerk Foundation Philippines Inc. (ASFFPI) around historical places in Lapu-Lapu City and Cebu City as part of its heritage education campaign.
JCI chapter president Eli Espina and two other officials Malou Napata and Victor Recaña III brought the children to the Lapu-Lapu Shrine on Mactan Island and briefed them on the Battle of Mactan where Lapu-Lapu and his men conquered the invading Spanish conquistadores led by Ferdinand Magellan.
The group also visited the Rizal Monument in Cebu City and the children learned about the life and works of the national hero Dr. Jose Rizal as well as the history of Cebu before and after the Spanish era.
From there, the group proceeded to the Cebu City Legislative building, where city officials gave an orientation of the history of the city and the functions of the city government and the city council.
A week after the heritage tour, the JCI officials visited the children at the Children’s Haven of ASFFPI on June 11 for a pre-Independence Day activity.
The kids had an examination to check what they learned from the tour.
Children’s Haven is a residential facility in barangay Pilipog, Cordova town, for the abandoned, neglected, abused and exploited children. JCI Mactan Channel is its regular donor.
