PNP chief orders ‘extensive’ security preps for Traslacion 2025
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Marbil ordered “extensive” security preparations to ensure public safety during the Traslacion, the grand traditional procession of the image of the Black Nazarene on Jan. 9.
The Manila Police District (MPD) has gone on “heightened alert” for the week-long activities for the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

“With millions of devotees expected to join the highly anticipated Traslacion 2025, the Philippine National Police… has implemented extensive security preparations to guarantee a safe, orderly, and meaningful event for all participants,” the MPD said in a statement on Sunday.
Apart from personnel to secure key areas and provide assistance along the procession route, the PNP will also deploy its Intelligence and Anti-Cybercrime Groups to monitor physical and digital threats to the festivities.

The PNP also reminded the public to follow security protocols and avoid bringing prohibited items, which were listed by the feast organizers in a press conference in Quiapo last Friday:
- medium to life-size Nazareno images
- “istandarte” or banners
- carriage or andas
- firearms and deadly weapons
- pyrotechnic weapons
- drone camera
- professional camera and video recorder (except for accredited media)
- selfie sticks
- large bags
- blankets, hampers, and storage boxes
- portable appliances
- liquified petroleum gas and stoves
- tents, tables, and other picnic items
- umbrellas
- alcoholic beverages
- cigarettes or vapes
- laser pointers
- large chains, spikes, and other big metal objects
- scooters, skateboards, and skates
- vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles (unless authorized)
- heavy meals
- plastic and glass bottles
- food sticks
- pets
- black plastics
- jackets

“Traslacion is a profound expression of faith and devotion. The PNP is fully committed to safeguarding every devotee, dedicating all necessary resources to ensure peace and order during this sacred occasion,” Marbil assured in the statement.
“We call on devotees and the public to cooperate with security protocols, report any suspicious activities, and prioritize safety. Your vigilance and cooperation are vital to the success of this event,” he added.
