DOH: 656 road mishaps monitored from Dec. 22 to Jan. 5

DOH: Holiday road accidents hit 656 as of Jan. 5.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) monitored 18 new cases of road accidents on January 5, 2025, Sunday, bringing the total number of cases since December 22, 2024 to 656.

The DOH said the latest tally is 32.7 percent more than the number of cases logged over the same period in 2024.

In a report on Sunday, the DOH said the cases of individuals who did not use safety accessories while driving rose to 569, mishaps involving motorcycles reached 468, while cases of drunk individuals rose to 123. 

The number of people who died due to these accidents remained at seven,  four of them due to motorcycle accidents. 

The DOH reminded the public to avoid driving when tired or drunk, wear a helmet (for motorbikers) and use seatbelts, follow  speed limits, have enough rest / sleep before driving, avoid using phones while driving, and call 911 or 1555 DOH hotlines in case of emergency.
