LTO nets over 639,000 traffic rules violators in 2024

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 639,323 motorists were apprehended for traffic violations in 2024, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said on Friday.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said the figure marked a 20.75 percent increase from the 529,439 motorists apprehended in 2023.

Calabarzon logged the highest number of apprehensions with 109,159 drivers caught violating traffic rules, followed by Cagayan Valley with 70,855.

Mendoza attributed the rise in apprehended drivers to the LTO’s “intensified visibility” and coordination with the Philippine National Police and local government units.

“Let these results of our operations serve as a reminder to motorists  that we will further strengthen our operation to ensure that all motorists follow traffic laws,” Mendoza said in a statement.

The LTO chief likewise noted that the agency impounded 29,709 vehicles in 2024, marking a 21.93 percent increase from the 24,366 impounded in 2023.

Mendoza assured motorists that the agency would remain firm in their operations to ensure the safety of all road users.
