MANILA, Philippines — Parts of Northern Luzon and Palawan will experience cloudy skies, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms on Friday, Jan. 3, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In an early morning update, Pagasa explained that the cold northeast monsoon (amihan); the warm winds from the east (easterlies); and the shearline, or the zone in which warm and cold winds meet, are affecting parts of Luzon.

(Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected  in Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Kalinga, as well as Apayao, Mountain Province, Ifugao and Palawan.)

Fair weather down South

(Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon as well as the entire Visayas and Mindanao will experience good and fair weather, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies, and sudden, isolated rain showers.)

Aurelio added that the northeast monsoon is expected to intensify between Friday and the next two to three days and will continue to affect Northern Luzon.

Pagasa did not raise a gale warning but said moderate to rough waters with waves  between 2.1 and 4.0 meters high are possible in the waters of Northern Luzon and Ilocos region.
