Girl dead, boyfriend hurt in Rizal hacking

LUCENA CITY — A 19-year-old girl was killed and her boyfriend was wounded in a hacking on Wednesday, Jan. 1, just a few hours after the New Year celebrations in Taytay town in Rizal province.

The Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) police reported on Thursday that Mitch Bartolome and her boyfriend, Jake Montañez, had just celebrated the New Year in Barangay (village) San Juan around 4 a.m. when “Jiemboy”, 44, Bartolome’s stepfather came and started an argument.

At some point during the heated argument, Jiemboy grabbed his jungle bolo and hacked the girl.

Montañez intervened to pacify Jiemboy, but the older man hacked him, too.

The victims were injured and taken to the Rizal Provincial Hospital System in the locality but Bartolome was declared dead on arrival.

Jiemboy escaped after the incident and is now the subject of a police manhunt.

The report did not provide details about the altercation that led to the killing.
